What is Investing?
Investing is the practice of placing money in
a venture or company and receiving a return on your money. There
is a risk involved
in this, as there is always the chance of losing your investment,
and it is always a good idea to do your research and get some
kind of professional advise as with all money matters.
There
are many different forms of investment, and this can include
currency and bond trading, investing in a business, and the
most common method, stocks and share trading.
About Stocks
and Shares
A company, for example, may have 10,000 shares
or stocks, which are parts of the ownership of the company.
This amount
varies
according to the company, and when an individual “buys” 100
shares, for instance, he technically owns 1% of the company.
The value of the company is then listed on the stock
exchange, and the value of your shares is based on the
daily traded
value of the company’s stocks.
The value of a stock
or share moves up or down depending on a variety of
factors which may include a profitable
takover bid,
which would send its price up, or some negative publicity
which could send the price down. |
